Dirt Candy

Carrot buns
Jalapeno Hush Puppies
This past weekend I had the opportunity to have dinner at
Dirt Candy, chef Amanda Cohen's first restaurant in the Lower Eastside featuring a full menu of meatless dishes.  The highlights of the evening started with the appetizers, Jalapeno Hush Puppies served with maple butter and the steamed barbecue carrot buns, which I could have mistaken for barbecue pork in a moment. The Corn and Cauliflower entrees failed to impress after a delicious first course. However, desert left things on a positive note. Red Pepper Velvet Cake and Popcorn Pudding, which tasted more like a custard contrasted with salty carmel popcorn for dipping were definitely standouts.
