Dripping Beaches
The paintings of Chrissy Angliker are an exercise in "creating a balanced relationship between the controllable and uncontrollable." I think the artist misses the mark when describing her work, making it a lot more simple. Ms.Angliker's paintings combined the attractive quality of the organic, like the aged patina of a penny, with the familiar subjects of the portrait and the landscape. Looking at Angliker's work is like viewing a cheerful scene through a rain soaked sheet of sadness. One feels the depression of being trapped inside and at the same time glee caused by the thought of a sun-filled day at the beach. Her work is an exercise in a different set of dualities.
