| Wood Pallet Flower Box |
Wood pallets are everywhere, behind every store and broken up in every dumpster. Everyday I pass piles of wood pallets in all states of being, from the perfectly intact to boards in complete disrepair. The sight of all these wood slats going to waste got me thinking. Those beautifully aged wood boards would be perfect for a long planter filled with spring tulips or any just about any plant. So Nina (my roommate, business partner, and friend) and I got to work making two Wood Pallet Flower Boxes.

All one needs to make a Wood Pallet Flower Box is a claw head hammer, metal cutting pilers, a hand saw, some sandpaper, a plastic garbage bag and some nails. The hammer and pilers were useful for taking the boards apart and pulling out old nails. The saw iss used to cut the boards to the desired length and the nails to put it together.
Once constructed I lined the box with the plastic bag and filled it with potting soil. I chose to plant tulips from the local nursery, apposed to forcing Tulips from bulbs. Forcing bulbs takes several weeks and a fridge dedicated to bulb storage, it takes a lot more time and resources than I have.

ReplyDeleteWooden pallets are also very strong when compared with plastic ones. They can hold very heavy weights, some of which would no doubt damage or ruin plastic crates, Los Angeles Pallets.
