Balenciaga Resort 2012

I love this video for Balenciaga's resort 2012 collection. I really had no interest in the collection before this video. I thought it looked too boxy and was too heavy on the shoulder emphases. I just dismissed it as a fluke in Nicolas Ghesquière otherwise good taste. But after seeing this video I was suddenly intrigued. Seeing the looks in motion and in such a stylized setting helped me develop a better appreciation for the voluminous silhouettes. It's definitely worth taking a look.

Resort 2012 Mini Trend: All-Over Florals

I've been spending a lot of time collecting and sharing some of my favorite looks from the Resort 2012 collections. However, I seemed to neglected to post one of my favorite trends of the Resort season, all-over florals! I have to say that Phoebe Philo at Celine and Stella McCartney definitely did it best.

I really love House of Holland's Resort 2012 collection. Henry's playful "Mexican" inspired collection is super fun. Perfect for a beach holiday.

Prabal Gurung Resort 2012

First of all I have to say that I have not been a fan of Prabal Gurung's work before. I would have previously said his clothing was visually sloppy, over indulgent and unoriginal. (I'm clearly in the minority here, Gurung just receive the Swarovski Award for Womenswear at the CFDA awards just a week ago.) However, I have to say Gurung's Resort 2012 collection makes me question my previous feelings of the Nepal-born designer. 

The collection is playful and sophisticated. It features bold colored prints, a variety of textures and most notably tailored garments that are rarely seen in his previous work. Gurung's debut resort collection was coupled with the debut of Baltimore rapper Rye Rye's music video, New Thing, which was entirely costumed in Prabal Gurung Resort. Gurung's collection and video collaboration are just more examples of why I love Resort so much. Check out the full collection at Style.com.

Resort 2012 Favorites!

 Resort collections are my favorite. They are light hearted and offer real wearable looks that still explore interesting ideas and concepts. The 2012 season was filled with color from cool mint (Acne) and blue (Derek Lam) to hot orange and corals (Rachel Roy and Sportmax) as well as simple A-lined sleek and sheath-like silhouettes.
