Pretty Ugly!

I'm a huge fan of Miss Sharon Needles, Rupaul's Drag Race season 4 contestant. Needles is a little bit spooky, kooky, and a lot fabulous! The season premier was yesterday evening and Sharon is already standing out from the crowd as episode one's winner! I think it's about time America's next drag superstar looks like a dead prostitute! A Clean Shave

Brad Goreski, former apprentice to celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe, was photographed and interviewed by Style Caster. The handsome newby stylist was shot at the equally handsome The New York Shaving Company in Soho. He briefly talks about his new Bravo show and of course clothes. Lady White Snake

I just wrapped up teaching my first semester of sophomore pattern making and draping at Pratt this week. My wonderful students just finished up their critique on their final project, a blouse and a coordinating skirt inspired by the FIT Daphne Guinness exhibition. Earlier in the semester we went to the exhibition and the students documented 10 looks that inspired them. However, I found little inspiration in the garments themselves. The most inspiring element of the exhibit was the video above. A preview of the film The Legend of Lady White Snake directed by Indrani and style by GK Reid. I've worked with GK before with the twentyten and watched Idrani, Markus, and GK on their Bravo show, Double Exposure. It was a pleasant surprise to learn of their involvement in this great film that really set the mood of the exhibit. It's quite a dramatic video with some stunning looks.

Celebrating Christmas at the Beekman

The Fabulous Beekman Boys is one of my favorite shows and the couple behind Beekman 1802 are one of my greatest inspiration, so when I saw these images of the Beekman Mansion during the Holiday season at CountryLiving.com I had to post them. The decor, like the couple, is a blend of city and country, modern simplicity in classic christmas colors and flora.

Pyyramids

Comprised of Drea Smith (He Say She Say) and Tim Nordwind (OK Go), Pyyramids are rocking out their eerie pop beats and I can't stop listening. The duo released their first EP Human Beings this Halloween. A fitting holiday, since I first heard the spooky voice of Drea on my favorite TV horror drama, American Horror Story. I love it when my favorite things come together. I can't wait to hear more from these two and luckily there are more tracks already in the works. Sarah Style

I love Sarah Richardson and her designing sidekick Tommy Smythe. If you haven't learned a thing or two about how Sarah does design from her many shows, Design Inc., Sarah's House, Sarah's Cottage, Sarah's Country House, etc.  Her most recent show, Sarah 101, is meant to be a guide to interior design Sarah Richardson style. I love Tommy and Sarah's color palettes, mixes of bold patterns, and combinations of modern and vintage furniture. You lucky Canadians can watch episodes of Sarah 101 at HGTV.ca, for the rest you will just have to look at my favorites from the season here at IamDavidj.com. I'm already making a list of some new interior design additions, SR style, i.e. ball fringe on the curtains and plaid pillow shams for the bed.....

Style Inspiration: Charlie's Angels

When I was sick with tonsillitis I watched a day long marathon of Charlie's Angels and ever since I've been stuck dressing like it's the 70s. From the turtlenecks to the flared pants I'm in love with it all. The Stylish Jeffrey Alan Marks

Last night was the season finally of my favorite summer obsession Million Dollar Decorators. Without saying I am more than bummed to no longer get a peak into the lives and businesses of some of my newly favorite designers (I love Mary McDonald.) 

This post is dedicated to Jeffrey Alan Marks and his employee and life partner Ross Cassidy.  JAM's work has a causal lived in feel combined with whimsical touches and nautical influences. Notice the boat hanging from the celling in the couples bedroom. Jeffrey and Ross's style isn't limited to the spaces they design and live in, but in their closets as well. I love to see designers that live a fully designed life. So many designers seem to be unable to implement their design philosophy in any other place than where the money is coming in. Example, the sisters behind the label Rodarte, why do they always wear boot cut jeans and ballet flats? They make women's clothing! What's stopping them?

The Lovely Mary McDonald

I'm a huge Bravo fan. Whether it's the Real Housewives, Rachel Zoe or Flipping Out I'm watching it. My current favorite obsession is Million Dollar Decorators, especially designer Mary McDonald. I love here frankness, personal style and interior design philosophy. McDonald's work has been described as modern glamour. House Beautiful says “her work is timeless and glamorous all spun together with a keen fashion sense.” I especially love her habit of painting bold patterns on the floor. (Watch the show and you can see some awesome examples.) 

I pulled a ton of images of her work but you really need to see the show to really understand the once milliners charm. But don't think all the other designers on the show are duds, Kathryn Ireland, Nathan Turner, Jeffery Allen Marks and Martyn Lawrence-Bullard round out the eccentric cast.

The Fabulous Beekman Boys

This post has been long over due. If you haven't seen Planet Green's best reality show The Fabulous Beekman Boys, than you're missing out. The Beekman Boys is a show about couple Josh Kilmer-Purcel and Dr. Brent Ridge, two city boys trying to run a farm and a business selling goat cheese and soaps. The show is in its second season and it's just as funny, touching, and informative as the first episode. I can't help but relate to this show, I am Josh and Brent spilt in one body.
