Let's Listen to Some Vintage Gay Porn!

Canadian Musician, Montag, aka Antoine Bedard (Carpark Records) creates a spacey electro mix of vintage gay porn sound tracks. The result is a surprising 44 minute  pleasant ambient track. Montag discusses the Gay Porn Archives Lo-Fi Mix below. 

 "It's hard to imagine that porn movie scores could be of any interest. You have to go quite far back in time in order to find surprisingly sophisticated "porn music". In the world of gay pornography, the late 70s and early 80s are an interesting era when it comes to music scores. Disco was still very popular of course and it was still used a lot but there was also a whole range of different moods out there. Being gay was not just about partying, it was also about being an outcast, living with forbidden compulsions... And I think it is what partly explains the use of much darker music in some gay films back then, including quite interesting electronic music. Of course, the vibe differs a lot from one movie to the other, but movies like "Turned On" (1982) or "Games" (1983) (both featuring legendary porn star Al Parker featured on the artwork) have some of the most interesting music I've ever encountered in film. Slow paced, very spacey, the music is so intriguing, I just felt compelled to share it. And by doing a bit more research, I came across a variety of scores that I thought would make a great mix. So here's the result, hope you enjoy it."

The Row

"Admiral's Row at the Brooklyn Navy Yard is a relic of the era when military officers lived at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in architecturally distinguished homes. This photo show commanders who were decorated in ceremonies at the Navy Yard in May 1945, 21 years before the Navy Yard closed. They are, from left, Joe Taylor, executive officer; Henry H. Hale, air officer; Stephen Jurika, navigator; and Francis K. Smith senior medical officer."

"The Commandant's House, where Commodore Matthew C. Perry lived in the 1840s, as it looked in December 1977. The distinguished Vinegar Hill home, built between 1805-06, is not part of the Admiral's Row property and is now privately owned."

The Daily News posted some photos of Admiral's Row back in the day. Admiral's row is a series of buildings along Flushing Avenue next to the Brooklyn Navy Yard. These buildings used to house the naval officers. The Row was last occupied in the 1970s and has now all but turned to rubble. Unfortunately or fortunately the several acer lot is going to be redeveloped. Two of the original building will be restored and the rest knocked to the ground to make way for a massive grocery store, retail shops, and more industrial space.  If your in Brooklyn I suggest getting down to the Wallabout neighborhood and take a look before these historic buildings become history. This week marks the start of the restoration process on the two building slated to survive the revamp.

The Zoology Student

Here are three pictures of Pauline Alden Ramsdell, my mother's mother. She's in the Swarthmore College laboratory examining tissue samples. She studied zoology at the Pennsylvania school and graduated in 1939. Her Senior year book states

"She is fond of water colors and Japanese prints, and wears purple continually. Her cheeks, which are continually that rosy color, add to the impression that Polly looks like a Botticellian edition of Bette Davis." The book also notes that she avoided live animal directions, played bridge, and enjoyed frequent trips to New York City.
