Fall 2013: Alder New York

This summer Nina and I moved to a brownstone that sits on the boarder between Bedstuy and Crown Heights in Brooklyn. We live around the corner from a mosque and Halal markets as well as the usual urban haunts like Jimmy Jazz and Cookies. The residents of this mash up effortlessly fuse the unlikely paring in their wardrobe. Men wear oversized bombers and hooded sweatshirts over embellished tunics or a wrap skirts with thermal underwear and Timberlands. These looks, uncommon in most places sparked the beginnings of Alder New York's Fall 2013 collection.

We embellished traditional patterned shirts with neon and metal sequins and created full legged shorts and skirts to mimic the local looks. This season we also work with accessory designer Robin Mollicone to create necklaces, pins, key chains, and rings. As always all of our garments are made in the USA from the best quality fabrics and materials. This season additionally marks our first collection using Woolrich wools made in Woolrich, Pennsylvania. Check out the Alder New York website where you can shop previous collaborations with Robin Mollicone and soon be able to buy pieces from the Spring 2013 collection

I Still Love You

Here's the awesome I Still Love You SS13 video created by Leveler media. The video features blonde bob wearing clones adorned in plastic geometric shapes suspended from gold chains. Earrings, necklaces, belts, and even glasses get this bold but simple treatment in numerous colors and patterns. See more from designer Carrie Morrissey at islynyc.com.

Fendi's Modernist Bags

For Spring 2013 Fendi, the decades old fashion house took on modernism. Creating graphic blocked garments made of geometric patterned furs and leathers. However, the standouts are the bags. Cubes made from fur and beaded leather adoren classic shaped clutches and totes. See through vinyl pockets act as holder for your clutch when you need something a little bigger. Beaded textures and bold blocking can sum up the rest of the bunch. In all a great post-modern take on modernism.

NYFW Spring 2013: Anndra Neen

Designers Phoebe and Annette Stephens, sisters originally from Mexico City, presented their line, Anndra Neen, at Milk Studios this week. Models wore soft nude tone sheaths under the large bold statement jewelry that include metal collars, necklaces, bracelets, rings, and bags. The collection of oversized jewelry is daring for most women but definitely has a place in a time where impactful jewelry seems to be having it's moment.

SS13 Trend: Tattoos II

I stated during the men's shows in Europe that tattoos are one of the biggest trends of the Spring Summer 2013 season. Now that it's fashion week here in New York one can see that it's most definitely still a trend on the other side of the ocean. On Milk's 8th floor Pamela Love opened her own tattoo shop were show goers can get some quick ink between presentations.

NYFW Spring 2013: Rochambeau & Holst + Lee

Some labels have a flare for the dramatic when it comes to presenting their work; Rochambeau is one of those labels. At the mystic water inspired Spring Summer 2013 presentation the room was lit green with models burning incense and filling the room with a haze. Not only did this make seeing the clothing difficult but made it near in possible to get a good photo. One thing that did stand out from the haze was the brightly colored jewelry by Holst + Lee adoring the models necks.

Shop: Anew

Jewelry by Robin Mollicone

Big commercial retailers and established design houses weren't the only people celebrating last night during NYC's fourth Fashion's Night Out! At Chelsea's Underline Gallery curator Jennifer Minniti, Chair of Fashion Design at Pratt Institute, opened Shop: Anew, a show celebrating craft as the "antidote to the banality of the mass-produced." The show features an all female group of artist working in a variety of mediums and disciplines. Show stand out, Robin Mollicone, displayed a collection of neon accented, intricately beaded jewelry, that without doubt, could fit into any editorial, high-end department store or on the neck of the next it girl! However, I have to admit, as a friend, frequent collaborator, and peer; I might be slightly bias. Nonetheless, the show is a must see!

Quechua

Shot form Carrie Biblo's Quechua Collection look book & Cusco Cuff

Spring at Alder was all about traditional Mexican textiles with a fun preppy twist. Which was surprisingly very simular to Brooklyn-based jewelry designer, Carrie Bilbo's, recent inspiration. Carrie's newest collection entitled, Quechua, was inspired by the native textiles found on her travels in Peru. With such similarities, Alder and Carrie decided to work together and style Alder's Spring 2012 look book with pieces from Carrie's new collection. Nina and I loved the new collection so much that we decide to sell it at Alderboutique.com too. Check out Carrie Bilbo's pervious work at her website and Esty Shop. And make sure to pay close attention to the amazing work we collaborated on for the twentyten a few seasons ago, it's pretty awesome!

Holy Moutain

I love the Spring Summer 2012 look book for jewelry brand Ambush. The collection was inspired by the 1973 film The Holy Mountain directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky. The jewelry and correlating look book is filled with ancient mystic and occult symbolism that seem surprisingly fresh and modern. Soon available this June.
